Echoes of Rawle: A Visual EP
[as originally published on ventmagazine.com]
Canadian-Guyanese recording artist Rawle is doubling down on creativity in 2025, announcing a hybrid music and film project that blurs the lines between sound and screen.
Titled Echoes of Rawle, the project consists of a seven-song EP paired with a seven-part cinematic video series. At the center of it is Rawle himself—an emerging voice in independent R&B and soul, known for smooth vocals, emotional candor, and a strong visual aesthetic. The new release is positioned as a major next step, following the success of his 2022 debut Find My Way and the 2023 single “Broken Love,” which featured The X Factor USA winner Melanie Amaro and has since surpassed 750,000 streams.
The EP’s lead single, “Unconditional,” released on March 21, is gaining traction on soul-format radio and digital platforms, recently reaching #16 on the Urban Influencer R&B/Soul Chart. The song’s momentum reflects Rawle’s continued rise in the independent R&B space and sets the tone for the multimedia rollout that follows.
“Unconditional” is a textured, emotionally grounded track produced by Grammy-winning Canadian producer Yonatan Watts—recognized for work on Chris Brown’s 11:11 and Ariana Grande’s Positions. The track also features co-production by Gianelo Power (aka Joël St. John), and vocal production by Andreena Miller, known professionally as The BLK LT$, who co-wrote the song with Rawle. Miller’s credits include work with Drake, Future, Kodak Black, Coi Leray, and DMX, and her touch is felt in the vocal polish and layered harmonies of the track.
But Echoes of Rawle isn’t just a music release. It’s a full visual experience, executive produced by Rawle and starring actress, filmmaker, and producer Lisa Wu. Known for her work both in front of and behind the camera, Wu plays a spiritual guide across all seven episodes, serving as a narrative thread through each song’s transformation into a visual chapter.
“Lisa appears in every room—every video,” Rawle says. “She’s a guide through the emotional journey the music represents. Each song opens a door, literally and spiritually, to the next episode.”
That visual journey starts with the music video for “Unconditional,” slated for release on Friday, July 18, 2025. It was directed by Greg Galloway, whose past credits include The Anatomy of Love and BET’s Lens on Talent. Galloway brings a cinematic tone to the work, leaning into Rawle’s interest in immersive storytelling and metaphor. The full video series is currently being developed for streaming distribution.
For Rawle, this project marks a deeper commitment to narrative—not just lyrically, but through film and character. The artist, who was born in Guyana and raised in Canada, has long drawn on personal experience and identity in his songwriting. His music blends R&B and pop influences with soul-rooted storytelling, often touching on themes of heartbreak, renewal, and self-discovery.
“This project reflects where I am spiritually, musically, and emotionally,” Rawle says. “Echoes of Rawle is me leaving a trail through sound and imagery. It’s about breaking the wall between music and narrative.”
The idea of crossing mediums isn’t new to him. Rawle is set to appear in Lisa Wu’s upcoming film trilogy Scavenger Hunt, alongside Bill Duke, Clifton Powell, Demetria McKinney, Tyler Abron, and Aaron D. Spears. It’s his most high-profile screen credit to date, and one that further cements his move into the world of visual storytelling.
With more episodes and tracks from Echoes of Rawle set to roll out over the coming months, Rawle is clearly not interested in fitting into a single lane. This is a project built around momentum—not just the kind that moves charts, but the kind that builds meaning. And if “Unconditional” is any indication, he’s hitting his stride.
